Sometimes we have to do and be great at things we don't want to do. If we train our leaders to only follow desire, passion, and talent, then we create in them brittleness, the inability to get their hands dirty. Moses was a great leader, but he did not follow his own passions all the time. Moses did not want to help the Israelites, and decided he was a poor orator. Jesus said "take this cup from me, but not my will but your will be done." And yet it was "for the joy set before him that He endured the cross." We should do lots of stuff that we love to do, and plenty of stuff that is more like carrying a cross, the difference is, like Joseph we have decidedly addressed each with excellence and a good attitude regardless of personal desire. People in the work force today will tell me "I don't want to do this or that, it's not my gifting." And I'm reminded of Joseph, who was certainly not gifted to be a slave, but gave his heart to it anyways. Might be a good teaching in here somewhere. I realize the trend right now is to take our strength and passions tests and do those things, and I think that is great. But I also think about my Mom whom grew up with a speech impediment, and then God called her to preach. It reminds us all that God is strong where we are weak, so maybe avoiding our weakness isn't such a good idea. Maybe we go with what God says, and then He gets the glory. I'm just sayin.
