Let your yes be yes and your no be no

You ever find yourself saying…”I promise, no I really promise, I swear.. as God as my witness” OR “ooh, I can’t make it today, I’m uhh, not feeling good, I swear.” When we want someone to believe us we promise and swear. But Jesus had a different approach. In Matt. 5 he told us not to make a big hoopla when promising, not to swear by heaven, or God’s throne, or the earth, or well, anything. He said this “Let your Yes be Yes, and your No be No.” When Jesus spoke it was always the truth. When I bend the truth to keep myself out of trouble, then I’m not growing, and worse yet, I am training myself to not even believe what I say, and I’m denying Christ’s example to us. Being honest isn’t a free pass to being mean, like, saying “boy you look terrible today”, that’s your opinion, not a fact. But when it comes to why you did something, or what you’ve done, or a contract or a commitment, and you want out, or in your marriage... Listen, your honesty is bigger than the feelings, the commitment is larger than the mistake, and your integrity is far more important than an opportunity. Jesus was honest, we should be too.
