What About Mom?

In John 19 Jesus is on the cross, all of the sins of the world have come upon him, bleeding and nearing his final breath Jesus sees his Mother, Mary standing near.  He motions to the one disciple who came to the cross and says “Dear woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple “Here is your mother.”  Even at this moment Jesus shows how completely selfless he is, not concerned about his own needs, he is thinking about his Mom.  It is thought that Joseph, Mary’s husband had passed, and then who would take care of mom?  We grow up and mom’s care for children, and so the relationship looks like this.  When a kid gets hurt, or is hungry, or needs a poopy changed, Mom’s do the work.  As you get older, the responsibility changes.  The children need to learn to give back.  Now not everyone had a perfect virgin Mary mom, but you have a mom, and if she is still around, she deserves your care.  And like Jesus, it just isn’t about your needs anymore.  What does she need?  How is she?  Do you talk to her as often as your friends.  Some of your friends you won’t even know in a year, but Mom you’ll still know Mom.  You buy the girl you are dating 60$ earings, but what did you buy mom?  This week, text mom every day, call her twice, and send her some flowers.  It doesn’t matter if she was there for you, Christians aren’t in the business of doing what is easy, we are in the business of doing what is right.  Jesus shows us this example on the cross.  God is asking you to be there for her.  “Hello Mom, how are you?”
