Nasty Mustard Water

You ever been in a conversation and suddenly you said a whole mess of stuff you didn't mean to say. And you're almost standing beside yourself watching yourself say stuff and your thinking, who is this person?  And even looking back, your thinking, why did I get so mad?  You see, what came out of you simply came out too fast.  It's like going to put mustard on your hotdog, and you forget to shake the bottle, and that watery stuff leaks all over everything.  It's what came out when you said all that stuff you wish you hadn't, nasty mustard water.  This is called reacting.  Reacting is when I allow some event to control my actions.  When a bad situation comes your way, a reaction is often wrong. We need to learn to act instead of react.  Stop, control your emotions, and then act in wisdom. Think about the goal of what you are wanting to accomplish before you open your mouth.  God describes the tongue as a having power of life and death.  Let's tame that tongue a bit, hold on to it before it starts stabbing stuff.  Let's shake up that mustard bottle before spraying nasty mustard water on your spouse, your parents, or your kids.
