Highway Through The Desert
Malachi 3:1 says "See, I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me." Or in Isaiah 40:3 it says "In the desert prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God." This messenger is John the Baptist, who prepared the highway through the wilderness for Jesus. Why? Well, God wanted a highway through the wilderness. It's a picture for us that He never intended for the Israelites to be stuck in the wilderness for so long. Sure we all may go through the wilderness to get to God's Promised Land, but we aren't supposed to die in the wilderness. It should be a highway. Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days where he fasted, and was tempted. How many of us get stuck in the wilderness? Then we might even think, well, "this is my lot in life." Hey, get on the highway, John the Baptist paved the road, then Jesus drove the road, and you are supposed to follow him. It's like your own police escort into the things of God. God is calling us out of slavery, out of the wilderness, and into His promised land. So put the top down, get on the freeway, and step on the gas. And this time there ain't no speed limit.
