Open Up Your Treasure

So three wise men go chasing a star across the planet which comes to rest above Jesus house.   Matthew 2:11 says that "On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh."  So begins the tradition of gift giving at Christmas.  And who better to give to then Jesus.  They brought what seems to be there best gifts.  In fact the gifts are described as being "Their treasures."   A treasure is something that has tremendous value to you.  And here they willingly opened up their treasures. God is beckoning us to open our treasure up to Christ, that which we value.  That we would keep our way pure, raise our children dedicated to the Lord, or give Him our most valuable time, or our wisdom as we teach.  Our marriage should be opened up to Jesus, our future, our wealth, or our poverty.  As we open our treasures to Christ we are making Jesus Lord of our heart, we are making him more important than the things that are important to us. And that is the gift we bring.
