His Righteousness

In Matthew 6 Jesus wrapping up his sermon on the mount, after explaining to us a lot of things that mankind has and can do wrong, like hate, lust, and greed, he says this most memorable phrase, "But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you."  So what is His righteousness?  Well Romans 3:21 says "this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe."  His righteousness cannot be earned by being perfect, for all have sinned.  His righteousness is something we must seek, learn about, really get inside of us the idea that it is a gift from God to those who believe in Jesus Christ.  I think it is something we have to seek because it is a difficult gift for us to open, a present we have a hard time understanding.  We have to really study this one because it is so natural for us to try to be righteous on our own, and to judge those who are not.  But His righteousness cannot be earned, it is a gift, and the resources for our lives and destiny are hidden inside our ability to seek His Kingdom and His righteousness first.
